Holland Park School

Purpose & aims of school project
Experiencing Community Cohesion at secondary level through the study of religions and values.

Holland Park School developed Key Stage 3 schemes of work in order to engender knowledge, empathy and toleration of faith groups. It also produced a video to showcase the contribution RE makes to community cohesion. In it students speak out of their own experiences of living in multicultural London; what they love about life in a diverse community and what they love about their own faith and culture. Students share their enthusiasm for RE lessons which have helped unlock these experiences and challenged their preconceptions. Students report how RE lessons have inspired in them a curiosity about diversity and a sense of pride in their own faith.

Holland Park School was built in 1958 as London's first ever purpose-built comprehensive school. Holland Park, in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, is a Community Secondary School and a mixed comprehensive. It has 1400 students aged from 11 to 19, 200 of whom are in the Sixth Form. The students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and so additional language help is provided for students who do not have English as a first language.
It is culturally and linguistically diverse. It welcomes people from all parts of the world.
