Purpose & aims of school project
Experiencing Community Cohesion through inter-action with the elderly, other faiths and local community activities.
To encourage an appreciation of the valuable role played by different members of the community towards building a stable, successful, and cohesive society. The project concentrates on three valuable areas:
Firstly respecting our elderly: Children to invite our local elderly citizens to a lunch at school, prepared by some of our children, together with the kitchen staff. The event will offer an opportunity for the children of Gatton to engage and value our elderly folk from all faith backgrounds.
Secondly, a Joint Community Art Project: By creating a joint banner for the Balham and Tooting Community Association’s Mid-Summer Fun Day. This banner is to be created with our neighbouring link school (Fircroft Primary) and will be displayed outside the Saint Augustine Church in Tooting
Thirdly, respecting communities Week: Through a range of activities organised to celebrate the contribution of different members of the local community towards making society a better place to live

Gatton Muslim School is a voluntary aided mixed primary school of over 350 pupils. The school is a larger than average voluntary aided Muslim primary school serving an economically diverse, urban community. The school attracts pupils from eight London boroughs and is heavily oversubscribed. Almost all pupils are from minority ethnic groups where the first language is not, or is believed not to be, English. The school was previously independent and was accommodated in a cinema that had been converted into a Mosque. It became part of the voluntary aided state sector in September 2004 and moved into a new purpose-built school building in January 2006.
